Item PS1 - HYALITE
OPAL - Chalk Mountain, Spruce Pine,
Mitchell County, North Carolina; a layer of blue hyalite opal
covers the top of a triangular-shaped granitic matrix. Note that
the blue hyalite is much less common than the typical green that
comes from the Spruce Pine mining district. Measurements are
3 1/2" x 1 1/4" x 2 1/2", and condition is good.

Item PS2 - GOLD
- Eagle's Nest Mine, Placer County, California;
gold grows up off a piece of matrix, looking like a "dragon's
head". Specimen was previously in the inventory of (dealer)
Kristalle, and measures 1" x 3/4" x 7/8". Condition
is very good. Includes Kristalles' label. $900. |

Item PS3 - PHENAKITE
- Anjana Bonoina, Madagascar; (thumbnail)
a rather gemmy, terminated crystal of this beryllium silicate!
A nice, quality specimen, in good shape. $68. |

- Ahumada Mine, Los Lamentos, Chihuahua,
Mexico; a nice cabinet specimen of vibrant-orange wulfenite!
Specimen measures 3 1/2" x 3" x 4", and condition

Item PS5 - MARCASITE
on GALENA - Gordon Mine, Picher, Oklahoma;
a dull galena cube (1 3/4" x 1 1/4" x 1 1/2")
has a partial covering of golden marcasite crystals spread across
a few of it's faces. These (and other mid-western minerals) used
be everywhere, but now it's mainly the old collections that are
bringing these back on the market. This piece was an old Caveny
Creations inventory specimen, in good shape. $70. |

Item PS6 - HERKIMER
DIAMOND - Middleville, New York; a
high-end herkimer that I've had stowed away in inventory for
probably 25+ years (anyone remember the collector Ken Silvy?
I purchased his whole inventory at the Tucson Show in the early
1990's, and this was one of them). Specimen is two doubly-terminated
quartz crystals ("Herkimers" since they're from Herkimer,
NY) - both glassy, a light-smoky coloration, and in prime condition.
There's a minor bit of matrix near the base, which adds to aesthetics.
Dimensions are 2 3/4" x 3 1/2" x 4 1/2". $350. |

- Harz, Lower Saxony, Germany; (thumbnail)
a group of silvery antimony - roughly 3/8" in diameter.

Item PS8 - Golden
BERYL - Spruce Pine, Mitchell County,
North Carolina; a piece of the pegmatite (mostly quartz, smoky
quartz and mica) has a half-dozen golden beryl crystals embedded
in it. Some crystals show iron-staining, and the longest of these
is roughly 1 1/2" long. Specimen measures 5 1/2" x
2 3/4" x 3", and condition is good. $70. |

Item PS9 - TOURMALINE
- Cruzeiro Mine, Sao Jose da Safira, Minas
Gerais, Brazil; a nice thick, bi-color, terminated elbaite tourmaline
crystal. Crystal stands 1 1/8" tall and 5/8" in diameter.
Ex M. Phantom Minerals specimen (incudes their label), and in
great shape. $120. |

Item PS10 - AMETHYST
(sceptre) - Chibuka Mine, Zambezi
Valley, Mashonaland West, Zimbabwe; a 2 1/2" high, 1 1/2"
wide, doubly-terminated amethyst crystal has grown atop a "stem"
crystal (hence the "sceptre" designation). Crystal
is semi-transparant, with full measurements at 1 1/2" x
1 1/4" x 3 1/4". Condition is very good. (Note: a note
on the old label indicates "enhydro - moveable bubble, but
I didn't see it) $250. |

Item PS11 - SCAPOLITE
- Vesuvius, Italy; a large, terminated, red
version of this silicate mineral (red is a rarer color). Crystal
stands 7/8" tall and 7/8" in diameter, with some faces
slightly "pocked" in places. Condition is good. $110. |

Item PS12 - SHARK
TOOTH - Texas Gulf Mine, Aurora, North
Carolina; a good-sized fossil shark tooth from NC - 2 1/4"
wide and 3" long. Condition is good. $55. |

Item PS13 - HELIODOR
- Volodarsk-Volynskii, Zhytomyr Oblast, Ukraine;
a heavily-etched, highly-transparant, light yellow-green heliodor
crystal. Specimen measures 1 3/4" long and 3/8" wide,
and came to me through a purchase from the Bob Lauf Collection
(it was priced at $80 when he bought it in 2010). Condition is
very good. $88. |

- Las Vigas, Vera Cruz, Mexico; roughly 50
thin amethyst crystals, with a deeper purple color in the tips,
have grown on the top surface of a 6" x 1 /4" x 3"
matrix section. A very good piece from this location. $245. |

Item PS15 - RHODOCROSITE
- Foote Mine, Cleveland County, North Carolina;
a 1 7/8" x 7/8" x 2 1/2" matrix piece has an open
seam of pink rhodocrosite running across it. Seam is roughly
7/8" long and 3/8" wide. Condition is good. $145. |

in QUARTZ - Gudger Mine, Mitchell
County, North Carolina; a well-formed almandine, 3/8" in
diameter, is exposed in a white quartz matrix. Full measurements
are 3/4" x 1 1/8" x 1 1/4". Specimen was in the
Dennis Herman Collection (comes with his label), and condition

- Medina, Minas Gerais, Brazil; a large,
terminated, naturally-blue topaz crystal from a well-known Brazilian
location. This specimen has good transparancy, and measures 3"
x 1 1/2" x 1 3/4". Condition is good. $1,425. |

- Ray Mine, Pinal County, Arizona; an octahedral
cuprite crystal is set on a 3/4" x 7/8" matrix section.
Cuprite is roughly 3/16" in diameter (.5 cm for those so
inclined), and condition is good. $32. |

Item PS19 - TURGITE
- Crowder's Mountain, Gaston County, North
Carolina; these coloful specimens of this irridescent hematite
haven't been common for years (this came along with the ruby
thumbnail; PS4). Specimen is a "plate". , measuring
3 3/4" x 3/16" x 3 1/4". Colors vary with browns,
reds, yellows and greens. Condition is very good. $100. |

- Fujian Province, China; a fist-sized plate
of octahedral fluorite crystals, with nice deep-green color and
a satin lustre. Dimensions are 5" x 1 3/4" x 3",

Item PS21 - SMOKY
QUARTZ - Enigma Mine, Hiddenite, Alexander
County, North Carolina; gemmy, brown, terminated smokies comprise
a high-quality (NC) quartz specimen. This came out when Chris,
Mark and I were digging a few years back (when it became the
Enigma). Measurements are 2 3/8" x 2" x 1 1/2",
and condition is fine. $195. |

- Linshu Mine, Hunan Province, China; s spray
of (mostly) terminated stibnite crystals, measuring 3 1/2"
high and 1 3/4" wide. A showy specimen - ex Mark Hosler
piece. Comes mounted on a thick, beveled plastic base for best
orientation and display. Condition is very good. $110. |

on CALCITE - J-Level, Buena Tierra
Mine, Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico; an interesting growth
of calcite - with transparant, flattened calcites overlaying
darker (red-brown) scalenohedral calcite crystals. Santa Eulalia
is a wonderland for calcites! Dimensions are 3 1/2" x 3
1/2" x 3", and specimen is in good shape. $90. |

in QUARTZ - Leonora, Australia; (thumbnail)
a 3/8" chunk of milky-white quartz, with a fair amount of
gold showing on all sides. A good sample of gold in it's natural

- near Hayesville, Clay County, North Carolina;
this piece is two intersecting staurolite crystals, each approximately
1 1/2" long and doubly-terminated. An aesthetic piece due

- Korshunovskiy Mine, Irkutien Region, Russia;
a 2 1/4" x 1 5/8" x 1 1/4" plate of deep-green
epidote crystals. Specimen has a nice lustre to it, and condition

China; (thumbnail) a cluster of sharp, orange spessartines, with

GARNET- Henson Creek Mine, Spear,
Avery County, North Carolina; a well-defined, dark-brown almandine,
with nice dodecahedral form. Garnet is nearly complete (bottom
is really the exception), and measures 1 3/8" in diameter
(relatively large from this location). Condition is very good.

- Boleo, Baja California, Mexico; (thumbnail)
a deep-blue, cubic crystal of this halide mineral. Longest side
is just under 1/4" across, and lustre and condition are

Item PS30 - DOLOMITE
- North American Emerald Mine, Hiddenite,
North Carolina; a quality Hiddenite specimen, with two sharp
dolomite rhombs (twinned), with associations of calcite and mica
at the base, and rutile on the back. Obviously from Jamie's hard-rock
mining (the carbonates only held up when dug from hard-rock pockets,
or weathering would've destroyed them). Dimensions are 2 1/8"
x 1 3/8" x 2 1/2", and condition is very good. $95. |

Item PS32 - ALMANDINE
GARNET - Fanny Gouge Mine, Micaville,
Yancey County, North Carolina; a fist-sized sample of almandine
in smoky quartz, with over a dozen garnets showing. Largest garnet
is roughly 1/2" in diameter, with total measurements at
4" x 3 1/4" x 3". Condition is good. Previously
in the Kenny Gay Collection (he bought it from the late Luther
Thomas in August of 1998). $50. |

on DOLOMITE- Sweetwater Mine, Viburnam
Trend, Reynolds County, Missouri; a fist-sized mixture of grey
galena and white dolomite, with a larger galena cube displayed
at the front. Largest cube measures 1 1/4" x 1 3/8"
x 1 7/8", while specimen measures 3 3/4" x 3"
x 3 1/4". Piece stands well on it's own, and condition is
good. $80. |

near Brasstown, Clay County, North Carolina; three intersecting,
terminated staurolite crystals from the North Carolina mountains.

wide. Full measurements are 2 1/4" x 1 1/2" x 1 3/8",

Peru; a good Peruvian cobmination piece, with bright pyrite cubes,
slender quartz crystals and minor sphalerite along the base.

County, Tennessee; each end of a 3" crystallized sphalerite
plate has a rounded barite growth on it. Color contrast helps

(thumbnail) jet-black plates of hematite are clustered on a small
matrix piece. I've been told that these are from the Workman
Farm (though I'm not certain, as it wasn't on the original label).

- Walworth, New York; (thumbnail) a self-collected
piece - collected some years back. This is a water-clear fluorite
sitting on a small piece of matrix. Condition is good. $20. |

Item PS42 - BERYL
with Schorl TOURMALINE - Ray Mine,
Yancey County, North Carolina; (I enjoy looking at these "broken
and re-healed" crystals, always giving me pause to consider
the stages of specimen development....) this piece is a green
beryl crystal, terminated and roughly 2 1/4" long. There's
a noticeable "shift" about 1 1/2" down where there
was a break and then the conditions were right for further growth.
There's also both schorl tourmaline and muscovite mica present
as secondary growths, adding to the specimen. Full measurements
are 2" x 1 1/2" x 2 1/2", and condition is good.

Peru; a fine barite specimen, with gemmy, grey (tabular) barite

specimen of this aluminum phosphate mineral, with a nice greenish-blue

has steel-grey, acicular needles of jamisonite attached. Condition

a colorful sample of turgite on hematite from the classic Graves

North Carolina; a 1 7/8" long line of light-amethyst crystals

- Pikes Peak area, Colorado; a 1 1/2"
tall, 1" wide, terminated amazonite, with a nice blue coloration
near it's base (the blue hues are apparently due to lead/water
impurities in the feldspar). A well-formed crystal, in good shape.

- Koksha Valley, Badakhshan, Afghanistan;
(thumbnail) a grouping of two deep-blue afghanite crystals, from
the type locality. For a "rough idea of size", crystals

- Anjerd Mine, East Azarbaijan Province,
Iran; a single, terminated vesuvianite - 3/4" high and 1/2"
wide, with a greenish-brown coloration. Most assuredly NOT a
location that I come across often (this is my first Iranian mineral
I've carried). Condition is good. $70. |
